Third Sunday of Advent
December 11, 2011 - Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11; Luke 1:46-55; John 1:6-8, 19-28
The world is waiting, amidst all the bad news, for some news that is good. The word used for "good news" in scripture is the same as the word used for "gospel"--the Greek word evangelize, from which we get the word evangelism. In this season of joy and good news, how might we reclaim evangelism in a way that speaks to our worldâs yearning and waiting? How might we share stories of lives genuinely transformed, see communities actually living out their authentic identities, and hear that change is possible even for the most brokenhearted and oppressed?
